In early-2000s Australia, retired TV repairman/German émigré Alex Kurzem came forward with a stunning account of how he'd survived the Holocaust as a child when his mother and siblings had not-by being taken in by a Latvian collaborationist SS battalion and serving as their mascot. His late-life hunt for remaining family, and his battles with those who challenged the veracity of his story, are given consideration in this sobering documentary portrait.
