Indestructible Man
Long a fan favorite, Indestructible Man (1956), was Lon Chaney's last starring role in which he created a new and original horror character.
After being executed for murder, Butcher Benton's body is whisked away to a secret laboratory where scientist, Robert Shayne (Inspector Henderson on TV's Superman) is working outside the box with his jittery assistant, Joe Flynn (TV's McHale's Navy) to revive the dead.
Their success results in their own deaths as Chaney returns to murderous life and goes on a killing spree... bullets bounce right off the Indestructible Killer.
The film was made "stop and go" over a period of a year beginning in 1955 and utilizes extensive stock footage from He Walked By Night (1948) to create a foot chase through the Los Angeles sewer system. Chaney's mute portrayal of the killer, Benton, fueled the rumor that he was unable to handle any dialog and was thus given little to say, but this seems to be contradicted by the many dialogue heavy television shows he appeared in at the time, and perhaps has little credence.
