For most combat soldiers, Vietnam was a grunt´s-eye-view battlefield war of guns and grenades. But for thousands of American combatants, the battlefield was a dark, vermin-infested cell in a prison compound like Hoa Lo, the hellhole POWs called The Hanoi Hilton. ´We can handle this,´ captured Navy Pilot Lt. Cmdr. Williamson (Michael Moriarty) says to himself, knowing his only defense against torture, disease and despair is an indomitable will. Writer/director Lionel Chetwynd based this harrowing saga on interviews with more than 100 returned POWs and draws powerful performances from a cast that includes Paul LeMat, David Soul, Doug Savant, Jeffrey Jones and other riveting actors.
