Great Moment

Always troubled by his patients suffering, 19th-century Boston dentist William T.G. Morton (Joel McCrea) started questing for an answer...and he became one of the first popularizers of ether as a surgical anesthetic. Writer-director Preston Sturges bid at a more straight-faced historical drama (until the studio wrested control of the film, and accentuated the humor).
