Dem Bums - The History Of The Brooklyn Dodgers
Newspapers called them the "Trolley Dodgers" in 1895, describing the difficulty baseball fans had while crossing trolley lines on the way to the ballpark, and the name "Brooklyn Dodgers" stuck. Their proud baseball history changed America forever in 1947, when Dodger Jackie Robinson played in his first major league game, breaking the color-barrier. That same year, the Dodgers entered their Golden Age with a team built around legendary all-time greats Pee Wee Reese, Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges, Duke Snider and Roy Campanella. For the next decade, this super team had their hearts broken so often in the World Series by crosstown rivals, The New York Yankees, that the Brooklyn slogan became "Wait ´til next year!" In 1955, "The Boys Of Summer" finally became World Champions when they defeated The Yankees in 7 games, in one of the greatest World Series ever.
