Blown off by her professor/lover, Finnish grad student Laura (Seidi Haarla) settled in for the days-long train trek from Moscow to Murmansk in order to study the famous rock carvings. She found herself grudgingly sharing a compartment with gruff, hard-drinking young Russian miner Lyokha (Yuri Borisov)-but the lengthy journey finds the polar opposites making genuine connection.
