Alex Yardley, producer of Elizabeth Blane´s popular pre-taped cooking show, has just sold a doozy of an idea. Elizabeth will star in a live Christmas special from her Connecticut home. At last, viewers will see the lovely estate, devoted family and elegant lifestyle Elizabeth has talked about for years. One problem: they don´t exist. Elizabeth is a media creation, a front person for her staff. "Just details," Yardley says.

Director Arnold Schwarzenegger whips details into a merry mixup in this media-age remake of the 1945 classic. Dyan Cannon portrays Elizabeth, who´d find making toast a problem...and whose career may be soon toast. Kris Kristofferson plays a handsome national hero who thinks the TV event he´s invited to share is the real deal. And Tony Curtis is Yardley, whose dream unravels while America looks on.
