Angel

A commercial and critical hit in Greece, this was that country´s first film to deal with homosexuality. The uneven drama is a harrowing, tragic account of a shy young man from a dysfunctional family (dad´s an alcoholic; mom´s a whore) who thinks he´s found love after meeting a macho sailor. Their relationship soon becomes abusive, with the handsome Angel forced to become a transvestite prostitute in Athens. His helplessness and humiliation soon end in inevitable violence.
