During the Boshin War in 1868, as the shogunate tried to fight off the inevitable rise of the Empire, a diverse group of convicts were conscripted and assigned to help defend a key fort from the Imperial Army. Their search for mutual trust and personal redemption fuel this gloriously old-school samurai epic, realized from a shelved-in-the-'60s script by Kazuo Kasahara. (2024)
