Saving The Titanic
Over the last 100 years, there have been countless stories about the Titanic's last hours--its technological advances, the many deaths, and the heroic actions of the crew above deck. But less has been said about the shipbuilders and engineers who worked tirelessly below as the water rushed in and made the ultimate sacrifice. SAVING THE TITANIC takes us below deck to the engine and boiler rooms where these men worked, following them from the ship's departure from Southampton through to its eventual sinking.
Based upon eyewitness accounts, this is the story of the men from the engineering crew as they worked among the huge, coal-fired furnaces heating the boilers, and massive dynamos whirring to satisfy the ship's demand for electricity. These men--among them 18-year-old electrical engineer Albert Ervine from Belfast, lead fireman Fred Barrett, and Chief Engineer Joseph Bell--are the heroes of this epic film. Their personal stories of bravery are recounted as the men fought courageously to hold back the power of the sea and keep the power systems running so more people could be saved, even when they learned that all was lost.
