Healing Canines

Dogs use their extraordinary senses and loyalty to aid people who are injured or ill. Dogs can smell or sense diseases and are used as early warning indicators. Dogs can also assist their handicapped owners in maintaining independence in their daily activities.

Episode 1: The Mystery of Healing, Part 1:

This episode explores dogs trained to actually detect cancer as well as high or low blood sugar levels in people; a black Labrador trained to aid a paralyzed veteran; and a golden Labrador that can forewarn its owner of an impending seizure.

Episode 2: The Mystery of Healing, Part 2:

In this episode, a Yorkshire terrier detects when her owner's blood sugar changes; in England, Newfoundland dogs aid special needs children in building self confidence and social skills; while in Australia the Pups in Prison program allows inmates to train puppies for Assistance Dogs Australia.
