Canine Heroes

Dogs instinctively defend their territory and family. People train dogs to use this instinct in a variety of ways and many dogs have performed heroically to protect their owners in dangerous situations.

Episode 1: The Unassuming Hero:

This episode follows dogs in a Police Working Dogs unit in England; a dog trained to sniff out explosive substances; and Treo, who is the latest canine recipient of the PDSA Dickin Medal awarded for outstanding bravery.

Episode 2: A Study of Strength:

In this episode, sled dog teams mush through one of the toughest races in the world; dogs in Australia are trained to detect fire ants; and, in Canada, dogs are trained to track ringed seals in the arctic for research.
