Blaenau Ffestiniog - British Rail Journeys

The Ffestiniog Railway, starting on the glorious Welsh Coastline at Porthmadog, protected by the imposing castles of Harlech and Criccieth, is a memorable journey through the Snowdonia National Park.

From Harbour Station at Porthmadog, the train climbs through the sleepy pastures and luscious forests, skirting lakes and waterfalls. Clinging to and tunneling through the sides of mountains, the track takes in horseshoe bends which include a complete spiral. This area is so remote that the train is occasionally required to stop at isolated cottages whose inhabitants depend entirely upon the railway.

This journey covers the 13.5 miles from Porthmadog, rising to over 700 feet above sea level at Blaenau Ffestiniog.
