Award-winning actor Brian Dennehy portrays real-life lawman Buford Pusser in this dramatic recreation of the Tennessee sheriff´s heroic deeds. Pusser finds it easier to follow his own rules and must bend the laws in order to rid his town of the criminal element. The Sheriff single-handedly takes on his main adversary, cold-blooded bootlegger Danny Boy Mitchell (Ken Howard), and the well-meaning Selmer townsfolk who use an obsolete statute to ostracize a recently paroled prostitute (Sheree North).
