When 18 year old Sally Butterfield (Diane Lane) enters a Texas state beauty pageant, her goal is only to win a scholarship. However winning sets in motion an unexpected chain of events and she is entered to compete in the national pageant, miles away from her home and family. But nothing prepares her for her crowning as Miss All American Beauty, which catapults her into a frenzy of press conferences, interviews and traveling that she never expected. As things begin to move beyond her control, Sally must decide what the crown is worth, and if winning it all is worth losing herself.
