Charles (Van Johnson), now a successful writer, returns to France to reminisce about the life he led in Paris after it was liberated during Worl War Two. While he was covering the VE Day celebration as a reporter working for "Stars and Stripes", Dharles met and fell in love with the gorgeous Helen Ellswirth (Elizabeth Taylor). Soon afterward, Charles and Helen married. Charles worked a low-paying wire service job during the day and devoted his evenings to writing on his great novel. After numerous rejections, Charles was more than willing to give up writing and live off the revenue of a Texas oil well invesrment. As he squandered his newfound riches on creature comforts, he lost his literary ambitions and, slowly but surely, the love and devotion of his wife. Charles finally halted this self-destructive behavior and straightened out his life when a devastating tragedy made him realize how important the love of his family was to him. The great performances by Elizabeth Taylor, Donna Reed and Van Johnson and the heartwarming love story, make this a film that should not be missed. This is one of Elizabeth Taylor´s best !!!
