A monument to American ingenuity
It is one of the world´s greatest engineering feats, a colossus of concrete rising high above the Colorado River. Built during the Great Depression, Hoover Dam drew men desperate for work to a remote canyon near Las Vegas. There they struggled against oppressive heat and perilous heights to make a monument to American ingenuity and sheer human will.
Drawing on remarkable archival footage, evocative cinematography, and interviews with witnesses, this American Experience production tells the dramatic story of how a ragtag army of workers re-routed the mighty Colorado and erected the 700-foot-high dam. More than 100 workers died building this marvel that forever transformed the West.
