It Takes Losing Everything...To Find Herself.

As a spirited fifteen year old of part-Sioux heritage, Dalva is immediately attracted to Duane Stonehorse, also fifteen, who mysteriously arrives to live on her family´s farm. But when Dalva becomes pregnant, Duane mysteriously disappears. In time, Dalva´s grandfather (Rod Steiger) reveals the truth: Duane is Dalva´s half-brother. Immediately after their son is born, he´s taken away and put up for adoption.

Fifteen years later, Dalva (Farrah Fawcett) and Duane reunite and find that their old passion still burns. He confesses that he is dying of cancer and wants to marry her before he dies. Dalva agrees thinking that with her help Duane can fight the disease. But instead, he takes his own life.

Seven years after Duane´s death, Dalva decides it is time to return home to Nebraska where she meets handsome and rugged Sam Creekmouth (Powers Boothe), a friend of her grandfather. Soon Sam and Dalva find themselves drawn together-enmeshed in a passionate but cautious romance. With Sam´s love and encouragement, Dalva finally finds the courage to search for her lost son and recapture the peace that was robbed of her when she was a girl of fifteen.
