Bill Bittinger (Dabney Coleman), a small town host of a local talk show in Buffalo, NY, is trying to make it in the big leagues. He is obnoxious, insensitive, hypocritical and will do whatever it takes to succeed. He makes life miserable for his producer Karl Shub and his calm, competent, talented co-host Jo Jo White. Unable to keep Bill under control, they bring in Wendy Killian (Geena Davis) to keep a watchful eye.
