As with any Andy Kaufman performance, you´re never quite sure where reality ends and comedy begins. Andy stars here as himself in, what else, The Andy Kaufman Show. He is joined by, among others, a marionette of his alter ego, obnoxious dive-lounge comedian Tony Clifton. Is Andy putting us on when he and his former girlfriend Elayne Boosler air their dirty laundry? Is Andy´s enthusiasm for a tone-deaf singer feigned during a segment entitled "The Has-Been Corner"? When his guest Dr. Alex Shorr is unmasked as a fraud, is it a setup? This whole show may be a joke, spoof, or serious attempt at creating a late-night talk show. But who knows? That´s what makes it fun. That´s what makes it Andy Kaufman.
